HAMPTON, Va.— Ladell Abrams, an aspiring jazz musician, was part of the first residency program of the Hampton University/Count Basie Orchestra Jazz Institute. This was a four-day program that brought together 46 high school, college and military musicians from across the nation to learn all about jazz from a group of men and women from the Count Basie Orchestra.
